Household Recycling Instructions


                                            

Holiday Pick up policy: If your pick up day occurs on  Memorial Day, 4th of July,  or Labor Day, we will pick up the next week.
There is no pick up on or between Christmas Eve and New Years Day.  If your pick up day falls on New Years Day, we will pick up the following day. (thanks for the holidays)
Bad weather pick up policy: If severely bad weather (standing snow, treacherous ice, hurricane, etc.) occurs, we will skip that week, since there is no guarantee that the weather will be fine the next day.

Glass

*Recycle bottles & jars only. ( No window panes, no glassware, no light bulbs, no mirrors, no Pyrex).

Sort according to color: brown, clear and green (includes blue)

Remove lids or caps. Labels may remain.

Metal
Cans

*Food cans should be empty and rinsed, foil should be clean, beverage cans should be empty. We accept metal lids and caps.
*Aluminum and tin cans may be recycled together.*No plastic bags, please.*Other non ferrous items, such as pots & pans or lawn furniture are also recyclable.

#1 & #2 (mostly
soda & milk)
Plastic Bottles

*#1 PET soda bottles*Milk, water, or cider JUGS (identified by SPI code #2 HDPE on the bottom).*Clear or natural only, no white or colored jugs.*Remove caps, rinse and flatten.

Corrugated
 Cardboard

*CORRUGATED cardboard only. NO chipboard like cereal boxes. *Flatten boxes and place them in another box or tie the bundle with string.*Folded brown (Kraft) paper bags may be recycled with cardboard.

Ledger
Paper

*NON-GLOSSY printed & writing paper. White and colored paper may be mixed.
*No gummy labels, no plastic envelope windows, no carbon paper, no paper supply wrappers, no blue prints, no fax.

Newspaper/Magazines

Catalogs/Phone Books

*Save newspaper, magazines, catalogs, phone books & chipboard, ( i.e. cereal boxes, noodle boxes, six packs, writing pad backing, etc.)* Place flat in a paper bag or tie bundle with a string. * Remove any plastic bags.  *Please do not set out newspaper for recycling when rain or snow is threatening.

Clothing

*Clothes must be clean and dry.*Clothes must be placed in a plastic or paper bag & placed neatly with your other recycling*Belts, purses, & paired shoes tied together may be recycled with clothes.*Please do not set out clothes for recycling when rain or snow is threatening.

Books

 

*Hard cover and soft cover books may be recycled in a separate bag or stacked neatly next to your pails.  *Please do not set out books for recycling when heavy rain or snow is threatening.

Light
Bulbs

*To recycle, carefully place bulbs with your recycling, taking care not to break them or place them in harm's way. We can provide boxes for packing larger volumes.*There is an extra charge for recycling O.F.L.B., $1.25 a lamp (USA LIGHTS charges us for their pick up and processing.) We will note the additional charge on your next bill or if it surpasses $20.00 we will send out a separate bill.
